Clouds in the Countryside

More clouds in East-Central Illinois, this time over a golf course in Urbana.

Big City Big Buildings

I like the random geometry created by the buildings in a big city. This is a view of  a portion of Streeterville in Chicago.

The Shape of Clouds

Late summer is a wonderful time for clouds in East-Central Illinois. This infrared photo of the clouds was taken on the campus of the University of Illinois in Champaign.

Desert Mist

For a dry environment, the desert can have a lot of mist. The day I visited Big Bend National Park was a fairly cool one (it only got up to 95 degrees), and in the morning there was lots of mist in the mountains on the horizon. It was pretty until it burned off in the sun.

Big Bend Infrared

This is another picture from Big Bend National Park in Texas. The desert turns out to be a great place for infrared photography, as it brings out the clouds against the dark sky and emphasizes the stark environment.

Desert Week: Big Bend

For a guy who lives in the flat cornfields of the midwest, the desert is a fascinating environment. The desert scrublands of southwest Texas is best exemplified by Big Bend National Park, which is one of the least visited of the national parks. This is a shame, because the Chihuahuan Desert is a stunning place. Here is a view toward Rosillo Peak from the Main Park Road.

Monument Valley Redux

I've posted quite a few photos from my one visit to Monument Valley, but it's quite a place, so why not? Here is a classic morning view of the valley. This, by the way, is the view everyone gets if they stay at The View Hotel, which is part of the Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park.

Montana Clouds

This is a view in central Montana of wide open countryside and clouds. This spot is west of Harlowton on US 12, in Wheatland County. I converted it to black and white to bring out the almost infinite expanse of clouds.

Crown Fountain

As popular as Millennium Park in Chicago is, the Crown Fountain often goes mostly unnoticed. At the park the Pritzker Pavilion and the Cloud Gate statue, also known as "the bean," get most of the attention, but the Crown Fountain provides a wonderfully contemplative place along Michigan Avenue.

Buildings With Character

This is an old building that I like, located in Tolono, Illinois.

A Year Ago Today Again

Just like on Monday, this is an infrared shot from exactly a year ago, and once again the shot is of trees along a drainage ditch. I sense a trend. This is the Big Ditch south of Fisher, Illinois.

A year Ago Today...

A year ago today I was out in the countryside poking around and came across this scene. This is the Kankakee Drainage Ditch, west of Champaign, Illinois. This was shot in infrared and rendered in black and white.

Missing Places: A Former Favorite

This is a sunset view of one of my favorite photo places. Unfortunately, the barn on the hill began losing its roof last year, and has since been torn down. I will miss it.
