As our long winter drags on (and on!) I find myself perusing pictures of summer. This one is from east of Mt. Auburn, taken on a late May Sunday. Apart from my usual affection for trees and agricultural buildings, I like the clouds in the hazy sky. Winter has to end sometime, right?

I've been visiting Colorado since I was a baby, but it was only two years ago that I finally went to the western slope and canyons in the northwest corner of the state. There isn't a whole lot there, at least in terms of human habitation, but there are wide-open spaces and majestic hills. I didn't note the exact location that I took this photo, although it's somewhere along US 40, so I can't tell you the name of the mountain.

Delaware Bay from the Cape May-Lewes ferry
I took the ferry from Cape May, New Jersey to Lewes, Delaware a couple of years ago on a cloudy, forbidding day. I didn't expect to see much in such weather, and I suppose I didn't, but I did like the somber hues of the cloudy sky and the bay. This view, looking toward the bow of the ferry, has some very nice colors, and provides a sort of dark emotional feel. I'm sure there's a metaphor here, but I'm going to leave it alone.

Altgeld Hall, University of Illinois, Urbana, Illinois
Altgeld Hall is one of the oldest standing buildings on the University of Illinois Urbana campus. It was built as the first university library building, then became the law school, and now is the math building. This photo is an HDR shot converted to black and white. I like the effect.

Grain elevator at Matheson, Colorado. Rendered as a painting.
Wow, 600 posts. Who'd have ever thought I'd get this far? Or that I would just want to keep on going from here? Photography is one of the great passions of my life, and this blog lets me share that passion in a small way. It keeps me focussed on working with my photos, and it pushes me to learn new techniques and travel to new places.
Thanks so much for reading it, and here's hoping for another 600 posts.

This is a beautiful sunday afternoon on the Canadian National Railway line at Cornland in central Illinois. This nice old grain elevator has since been torn down, one of many old agriculture-related buildings that are disappearing from the countryside, a victim of shifting economics and changes in agricultural technology.

This is the mighty Mississippi River as it looked 30 years ago, from the overlook at Bellevue State Park, just south of Bellevue, Iowa. "Belle vue," of course, is French for beautiful view.
